–A Happy Sunday Message–
Acts 20:7 “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them…”
Sunday is the day of the Lord in which he rose from the dead. It is not to be mistaken with Sabbath, for the Sabbath is the last day of the week while Sunday is the first.
Some people criticise our worshiping on Sunday saying being SUN-day, it is a demonic gathering involving the worship of the sun god. At least I know the seventh day Adventists have this belief amidst their many other beggarly doctrines. This however is a foolish assumption. These critics don’t know that the day in which one worships does not define the God he worships. Do these people therefore claim that Jesus rose from the dead by the power of the SUN-god because he rose on a SUN-day? We know that the sun god is as powerless as the very fables that claims it exists. It couldn’t have raised Christ from the dead. So it is foolish to attribute worshiping on Sundays to the worship of the sun god.
The Bible tells us “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1). By this we know that God owns all the days of the week. He owns the Saturdays as well as the Sundays. There is no day that he doesn’t own, therefore there is no day that it isn’t right to worship God. If we as Christians have agreed to honour the Lord Jesus Christ by gathering every first day of the week since that was when he rose from the dead, it is just a mark of love and gratitude and imply nothing about the sun god. The accusation is indeed based on just ridiculous superstitions.
The book of Romans 11:16 says, “For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.” So if the first day of the week be holy unto us, so are all the days holy alike, and as Christians we are to behave accordingly, always lifting up holy hands in worship and glorifying God in our hearts wherever we may find ourselves.
